For the European Textile Forum 2012, we will be hosted by the brand-new Labor für Experimentelle Archäologie (LEA) in Mayen, Germany.
This Laboratory for Experimental Archeology is being established by the district Mayen-Koblenz, the town of Mayen and the Römisch-Germanisches Zentralmuseum (RGZM) in Mainz. The Laboratory address is An den Mühlsteinen 7, Mayen. At the core of the Laboratory will be possibilities for running archaeological experiments with iron, non-ferrous metals, glass, pottery and textiles; an open space for outdoor experiments will also be available. An archaeological technician and an executive/managing scientist will be part of the staff.

The Laboratory is intended not only for the research projects of the RGZM, but also to be a place for cooperation and networking in research, teaching, communication and marketing. The aim is to provide the necessary infrastructure for high-quality experimental archaeology.
With these aims, we feel that the Textile Forum and the new LEA have a lot in common, and we are extremely happy for the opportunity to hold the Forum at this brand-new place. The official opening is scheduled to take place not long before the Forum week, so we will be the first group to have an event there.
